rev up the crowd, rewrite the rule book

I totally had a post planned out in my head last week but I'm just not feeling like actually writing it out in paragraph form. So I'm going to try doing this in quick sentence form!

1. I think I might be turning into a cooking person? Which I think can only be good for me.

2. I'm also turning into social justice food snob. You know, someone who defends vegans and wants everyone to question where their food comes from and wants to tell them how the majority of their food is made. Which won't help me make friends, that's for certain.

3. Whenever I cook, I think about Sanji from One Piece and how disappointed he would be in how much food I waste. So I try to waste less.

4. But I also think that he would try to support me when my meals go horribly wrong. "Don't worry Aaaaaamber-chaaaaaan, do you know how many shitty meals I've made? And I'm a world-class cook!"

5. I love Yowapeda so much, help help help, there's only been three episodes! But the main character is so charming!

6. Trying to make myself watch Ace of the Diamond. So far, isn't working. Same with Elementary and I loved the first season of that show.

7. Where is the next episode of Sleepy Hollow?! *grumpy face*

8. DOCTOR WHO THIS MONTH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOODEEEEEWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

9. Where oh where is the good Fullmetal Alchemist fanfiction hiding? I must not be looking in the right places.

10. I got another 1,000 words written on my Yuletide assignment! I figure that I'll have the first draft done in another 1,000. Then I can focus on editing, revising, and fleshing things out.

10. It's funny how I made a valiant effort in the beginning of this list to be somewhat serious and it quickly devolved into fandom stuff. And not well connected either. I will have to try harder next weekend to do a proper post.

Being here in Minneapolis for work has definitely prematurely pushed me into taking that next step, of only buying real meat or not buying meat at all. The meat that the grocery stores nearby is all Actual Meat, so it's pretty expensive. As a result, I've taken to cooking vegetarian. (Though I'm not eating vegetarian, as I still get meat when I eat out, which happens a lot more often than usual here, given that I'm trying to make this partially vacation-y.)

Doctor Who! I'm going with a couple friends to see the simulcast later this month. :DD And then afterward, we plan on going to that bar in Brooklyn that has a TARDIS in it.

I keep on hearing good things about Sleepy Hollow...

And hurray for you Yultide progress! I've had a bad couple of life days so I stalled out a little on my NaNo, but I'm excited to get back into the swing of things.

What is “fake”meat?

The super, super cheap stuff that comes in sizes that don't exist in nature and is probably grown/processed in ways that I don't want to think too hard about...

Could you show me an image? I don't think I've seen something like that before :O

I'm afraid I don't have any pictures on hand! But I remember shortly before I left home for work, I took out a package of chicken breasts to cook, and when I took them out of the packaging... my reflexive, gut instinct actually felt repulsed by them. They were seriously huge -- I think each individual chicken breast was probably the side of a salad plate and extremely thick. And I remember thinking, "No natural chicken is that big!" and wondering what it took to make a chicken grow to have muscles that size...

The problem I have with a lot of food snobs is that they are totally not aware of the role of class in food procurement. Not to mention how a lot of them have no regard for the people impacted by their food choices (the migrants who are paid pennies to pick their food, for example, or the way quinoa demand has driven up prices in Bolivia, making what was once a food for poor Bolivians too expensive for them now). I just can't take food "snobs" who don't go all the way to eating only locally produced food seriously because caring about the welfare of animals whilst ignoring things like carbon footprints and the welfare of other people? Fuck off.

Aww, that's a cute mental image of Sanji being encouraging!

I dropped Diamond no Ace. I just didn't care what happened to any of them by the fifth episode and felt it was a good point to stop watching.

Congrats on writing so many words! \o/

Probably. Unless it was Luffy, who would probably eat most of the food as he went along.

SAME HERE! I thought the catcher was really interesting and I wanted to find out more about him - but the irritation I felt at the flatness of the character development for everyone else (and plot) was not worth it. The main character comes off to me as too much of a trope with no compelling substance. I don't mind cliche if it's interesting but by episode 5, I just wanted him to shut the fuck up already. If they did a spin-off of just the catcher, I would watch it. :Db

Good luck either way!
